You have to take a look in Valentino haute couture to know why Valentino is such a rare and exceptional entity. There were leather flowers appliquéd to rough-hewn linen, naive needlepoint embroideries on long pinafores worn over smocked shirts, and a shearling vest densely decorated with leather paillettes.
Then imagine what mastery went into creating the dress, somewhere near the end, with the palest gray clouds floating across its skirts, each of them outlined in tiny hand-sewn sparkles. Nowhere in the world can this work be done other than in Rome.
“In some ways, you are flying when you are in love”
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli inspiration board was lined with quotes from Shakespeare, bits and pieces of Dante’s Inferno, and the paintings of Marc Chagall, hopeless romantics all.
